SGPS is committed to ensuring end users are empowered with the tools and knowledge required to perform the tasks they are responsible for; ensuring transparency for all stakeholders. As technical developments are brought forward to the community, project-specific training and feedback sessions are made available to all stakeholders. These sessions are held in conjunction with the development and implementation of projects across campus.
SGPS will be hosting a workshop for graduate chairs and graduate assistants on social media, with an emphasis on providing practical tips for graduate programs to make better use of these crucial tools for student support and recruitment. The session will be facilitated by Alison Adair who has won several awards implementing social media strategies for Continuing Studies at Western.
When: Thursday, March 29, 2012 - 10:30am - 12:00pm
Where: Support Services Building (SSB) Rm 4220
The University of Western Ontario has adopted the use of a Content Management System (CMS), Hannon Hill's Cascade Server, to help manage website content. Cascade Server will help ensure that information is accurate, relevant, current, consistent and shared among websites. The user-friendly interface allows individuals who manage or contribute to websites to create and edit content more easily.
Ultimately, the main benefit of Cascade is that it ensures websites are up-to-date by sharing content in “blocks”. For example, many graduate programs subscribe to certain sections of the SGPS site, thus when we update something on our end (financial support, support services, etc.), this automatically updates information for all those subscribers. Cascade is extremely easy to use, so managing content becomes a simple task. It also allows program sites to adopt the same look and format set out by Communications.
Graduate programs looking to adopt Cascade are encouraged to contact SGPS to help facilitate the transfer, in addition to receiving advanced technical training and online strategies. For a listing of current websites in Cascade, please visit ITS - Western CMS.
