Postdoctoral Research Forum
The Postdoctoral Research Forum is an annual event led by the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies to foster scientific interaction and interdepartmental collaboration, and to provide greater exposure and recognition for research by Western’s postdoctoral scholars.
This year's event will take place on Thursday, June 5, in the Great Hall, Somerville House.

- 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. – Postdoc 120-Second Research Sprint
- 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. – Workshop on managing research data/primary research materials, research metrics, scholarly publishing, author rights and copyright
- 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. – Networking Lunch
- 1:30 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. – Panel discussion on navigating research environment, mentorship skills, and setting realistic goals for a successful postdoc
- 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. – Interactive workshop on research collaboration and impact
- 4:00 p.m. – Awards Ceremony

"Eugenia Canas" Postdoctoral Scholar of the Year Award
2024 Winner: Idowu Olawoye, Microbiology and Immunology, Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry
This award recognizes a Western Postdoctoral Scholar who has shown exceptional commitment and potential as an emerging scientist. The Postdoctoral Scholar of the Year stands out among his/her peers for excellence displayed in research, leadership, service, outreach, and/or teaching.
Postdoctoral Supervisor of the Year Award
2024 Winner: John McCormick, Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry
This award recognizes a Western Postdoctoral Supervisor who has demonstrated exemplary support for postdoctoral scholars at Western by going above and beyond supervisory expectations. These mentors have given their time and put forth extra effort to ensure a successful experience for postdoctoral scholars.
