The Tri-Agency scholarship and fellowship programs administered by CIHR, NSERC, and SSHRC have been streamlined into a new harmonized program called the Canada Research Training Awards Suite (CRTAS).

The following scholarships will sunset, and be re-branded as CRTAS: CIHR: Frederick Banting & Charles Best Canada Graduate Scholarships-Doctoral Awards (CGSD); CIHR: Doctoral Foreign Study Awards (DFSA); NSERC: Alexander Graham Bell Canada Graduate Scholarships-Doctoral Program (CGSD); NSERC: Postgraduate Scholarships-Doctoral (PGSD); SSHRC Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarships-Doctoral Program (CGSD); and SSHRC: Doctoral Fellowships.

The new harmonized program within CRTAS is now the Canada Graduate Research Scholarship – Doctoral (CGRS D).

Successful applicants will be awarded a CGRS D with a value of $40,000 per year for three years

The objectives of the CGRS D program vary according to the Tri-Agency descriptions in the table below.

NSERC
SSHRC
The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Doctoral Research Awards fund applications in any area of health research.
The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Doctoral Research Awards provide financial support to scholars who are engaged in research in the natural sciences or engineering.
The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Doctoral Research Awards fund research in the social sciences and humanities.

To determine which agency to submit your CGRS M application to, please see the Tri-Agency Guidelines on Selecting the Appropriate Federal Granting Agency.

Official Transcripts

Up-to-date official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate studies must be included in the application, including transcripts for the fall term of the year of application, whether they contain grades or not. Transcripts serve to confirm the number of months of graduate studies completed, determine your first-class average, and confirm your current registration. If your transcripts include transfer credits from another institution, the original transcript with the grades shown should be included, or your application will be deemed ineligible.

Up-to-date official transcripts are defined as transcripts issued by the Registrar's Office and dated or issued in the fall term of application (if currently registered) or after the last term completed (if not currently registered). If you use Western's eTranscript for your CGRS D application, you must share the eTranscript with yourself before you can access the PDF to be uploaded to your application. Please review the Office of the Registrar's webpage on eTranscripts for further information: eTranscripts - Office of the Registrar - Western University (uwo.ca).
